You'll find the NOR and Sailing Instructions for the 2013 TCYC Summer Shorts Series our Thursday night racing extravaganza below. There are a few changes to the instructions so please read through them carefully. Of note are sections 6 and 7. I have instigated a rule where if you volunteer your boat and crew to do Race Committee, you will not be scored DNF, rather you will be scored an average of your series' scores. Also False Creek Yacht Club has generously offered to open their docks and doors to racers for post-race drinks and dinner. They have an expanded menu, and the prices have been reduced with food and drink specials.
Members are reminded that these races are run by volunteers. Boats are encouraged to offer to run a race, or volunteer a crew member for a race to assist the Race Committee. For anyone who has not done it, Race Committee is a very fun job and gives you a unique view of the race and how winds and currents affect boats on English Bay. Come help out!
On a final note, I encourage Race Committee to challenge racers with changes to the typical race course. In other words I would advise skippers and crew to polish up on start flag signals and what they mean, there may be a few hitches thrown at you!
Looking forward to seeing you all on the water!
John Lee TCYC Fleet Captain 2012/2013
UPDATE: 07/29/13
Just a reminder that this Thursday August 1 is the last day of our Summer Shorts Series for 2013. Thank you all for participating!
If all goes well, and I can manage remotely to do the scoring we should have final results in time to award prizes to the two top boats at the FCYC clubhouse after racing on Thursday evening. As well, Jason Burnip at Granville Island Boatyards has offered a free lift as a door prize.
